La vie en rose

"It goes without saying: once you enrolled for an Executive MBA you know this step will change your life – as written on the front of the brochure. Especially your social life, at least temporarily. Not negative or in any way worrisome – in the contrary. You are prioritizing differently and focusing on the final goal: the perpetuation of your diploma in the beautiful wooden frame of the Simon School of Business. Imagine this feeling!

But, what is finally changing?

First: recognizing that there is plenty of time, even more than one would think. Second: learning to organize one's time well and efficiently and to emphasize on the most relevant issues. The most important is, however, to make a pre-selection of relevant issues while clearly go only for the most relevant things. Third: Having finally enough time for all these beloved things, one is enjoying them even more. The conclusion: The pleasure is even bigger as marginal revenue is outweighing marginal cost by far!

My specific point of joy and relaxation, next to the tight schedule during the Rochester-Bern Executive MBA program, is taking care of my garden!

You are smiling now and imagining a man doing gardening? Let's be straight: It is not the boring kind of vegetable gardening with never ending fights against snails or so…. No, it is taking care of more than 4000 rose plants. The nice thing about it is being at the fresh air, doing something with one's hands and being enthusiastic about the richness of the flowers and the incredible power of the colors…!

With this combination it is possible to let pass revue lectures as well as relaxing at the same time. And you might be right in feeling a back pain already by reading this article: Even this fact can be relaxing, since one is physically tired after a day of manual work; this pain is fixed at the latest the next day. This cannot be compared with the feelings after a day of pure school, where the body is tired, but your brain is still trying to solve a statistical problem – a full size brain-tease….!

And what are the relations between an Executive MBA, time management and spare time?

It is the same as with roses: It depends on the right cut at the right time! Only the rose which is cultivated properly and with a lot of enthusiasm is ready for the next blooming season. Students experience exactly the same during the Rochester-Bern Executive MBA program: With the right attitude towards the most important and an effort in the right dose – especially in the recovery time – a successful study life is guaranteed. With these ingredients, the private life as well as the program stay very beauty- and colorful. And after the study – your life will definitely change – for good!"
